The tropical storm Don is already in the Gulf of Mexico and heading to the Texas coast, interested in Corpus Christi and Brownsville should watch Don closely. There is no rain in Cancun since last night and no wind, it is 7:42am and the sky is mostly cloudy but no rain, we still have the outer bands of Don over the Yucatan Peninsula, scattered showers are expected in the afternoon.

The tropical wave that we have been tracking becomes tropical storm Don and it was located 66 miles north of Cancun, its movement is NW at 12mph. The Government of Quintana Roo issued a green alert for the area of Cancun, Don is heading to the Gulf of Mexico and the only effects that we are having from him is persistent drizzling, weather conditions will improve here in Cancun on the next 12 to 18 hours. The National Hurricane Center may issue watches or warnings for portions of the Texas coast.

There is a tropical wave approaching the Yucatan Peninsula, it was located this morning at 50 miles northeast of Cancun (82 km), the National Hurricane Center is giving a 80% chance of development on the next 48 hours, although this system is very close to Cancun it is expected that it avoid the northeast tip of the Yucatan Peninsula on its way to the Yucatan Channel and then to the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical depression. The effects of this tropical system over Cancun will be rain and scattered thunderstorms. Since this system is not a tropical depression yet, the government of Quintana Roo has not issued any type or alerts. Current weather in Cancun is mostly cloudy and no rain. We will update this report if the information change within the next few hours.

The storm names are Arlene for 2011 are Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irene, Jose, Katia, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rina, Sean, Tammy, Vince and Whitney.

No current tropical systems on the Caribbean Sea that represents a threat for Cancun or the Mayan Riviera.
