Cancun Tropical Weather

TS Ernesto is inland now and it will emerge into the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon where he could regain hurricane strenght, the forecast for Ernesto to the west and if this trend continues a second impact to the Mexico coast is posible. Ernesto is no longer a threat for the Mexican Caribbean anymore. We have partly cloudy sky with long periods of sun so everything is back to normal.

Ernesto Just became a hurricane category one and heading to the south of the Yucatan Peninsula, it was located at 1:00pm at 185mi (295km) east of Chetumal and currently has a WNW movement. Additional hurricane warnings was issued and now it includes the Cozumel island while Cancun keeps the tropical storm warning. There is a short distance between the core of the storm and the land so significant change on the forecasted path is not expected, once it starts interacting it could be downgraded to tropical storm again, Ernesto will cross the peninsula tonight and will emerge into the gulf of Mexico late afternoon tomorrow as tropical storm. In Cancun we actually have occasional showers and no wind at all.

TS Ernesto continues approaching to the south of the Yucatan Peninsula, it was located this morning at 250 miles (405 km) east of Belize city, there is a hurricane warning for the whole coast of Belize and in Mexico from Chetumal to Punta Allen and tropical storm warning from north Punta Allen to Cancun, Ernesto could become a category one hurricane before it lands tonight. In Cancun we are having a partly cloudy sky and scattered showers with short periods of sun, all the services in this area are operating normally.

The TS Ernesto was located this morning at 380 m ( 610 km) from the island of Roatan in Honduras and its present movement is to the west, Ernesto is heading to the north coast of Honduras where should pass tonight and tomorrow could impact the north coast of Belize, minimal danger for Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, the alert issued by the local government is green (low danger. We will continue monitoring the progress of this storm.

Ernesto continue its westward moving through the Caribbean Sea, it was located this morning at 215 miles (345km) SSE from Kingston Jamaica and moving at 22mph (35kph, some strenghtening is possible over the next 24 hours. The forecasted path regarding Mexico gives as probable impact zone the border of Belize and Mexico as we commented in our previous blog yesterday. That is around 250 miles south of Cancun and it this forecast remains hopefully we will not have any effect from this storm. The blue alert is current for Quintana Roo.
