Cancun Tropical Weather

There is no active tropical systems in the Caribbean Sea, tropical depression 2 is far away from Cancun and soon to become a tropical storm in the gulf of Mexico. Weather is Cancun is partly cloudy with long periods of sun, scattered showers could be present along the day.

TD 2 is inland and affecting Belize, north Guatemala and the south of the Yucatan Peninsula, it was located this morning at 140 miles SSE of Campeche city, Mexico, it is moving at 8mph and on this slow motion the storm must enter the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow. The weather in the Mexican Caribbean has improved on the past hours, satellite images indicates that we will have a cloudy morning with short periods of sun, there are probabilities of isolated T-Storms in the afternoon mainly in the areas of Akumal and Tulum.

The tropical distrubance 93L continues approaching the Yucatan Peninsula and it is expected to move inland tonight by the coast of the country of Belize, computer model indicates that once the system reaches the gulf of Mexico there are two solutions, the first one is movement to the WSW to affect the state of Veracruz or WNW to the state of Tamaulipas (this state share border with Texas). It is expected heavy rain for the southeast of the Quintana Roo state which hosts the Chetumal city, in regard the Mayan Riviera and Cancun it is expected from hard to moderate rain and scattered T-storms due to this system but nothing to be worried of since the system is very close to land and there is not enough time to become a tropical cyclone, things could change when reaches the gulf of Mexico but by that time it will be well far away from us.

A thunderstorms area has developed in the southwest Caribbean Sea off the coast of Nicaragua in association with a tropical wave that is moving slowly west-northwest, the wind shear 20-30 knots is high which will make this system slow to develop, it is expected that it approaches to the coast of belize on the next weekend on its way to the Gulf of Mexico before crossing the Yucatan peninsula and emerging by the bay of Campeche. If that forecast continues, there will not be any problem for Cancun and the Mayan Riviera but some thunderstorms mainly in the area between Tulum and Chetumal could be possible. We need to monitor the progress of this system closely, so far the National Hurricane Center gives 10% chance to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.
